Useful Crap

I’m just gonna use this space to post useful information that I don’t know where to file and if I do figure out where to file it, I’ll never find it again.

Electric Meter Reading
Below is a form that I made to help record your meter reading. It’s based on the ConEd form that sometimes comes with your bill in NYC.
Also – I found an interactive electric and gas meter reader that uses the same system as ConEd. You can turn the dials to the positions that you have written down and it will calculate your meter reading. You wont be able to submit your reading there if you’re not a customer of Allegheny Power, but they do allow you to print out your reading and/or you can just transfer your reading to the above meter reading form.

Fonts
Need a kool looking font? dafont.com has a HUGE archive of freely downloadable fonts that are categorized by theme, and can be sorted by name, date, and popularity. The site also offers the option of letting you type in text so you can see how the font will look in use.
But if you’re a designer trying to find the name of a font, you might want to check out MyFonts.com’s What the Font! There you can upload an image of the font your looking for and they will find the closets match in their database. I’ve used it a few times and it’s helped me out a lot.

Vector Corporate Logos
Brands of the World (http://www.brandsoftheworld.com) is the most comprehensive resource and most visited web site for copies of the world’s famous brand’s logos in vector format. Brands of the World is also a great place for designers to upload their own logo designs with their professional details to showcase their work and get exposure.
Convert Anything
At GreatConversion.com you can convert any unit to another unit online using their conversion calculator. I use the site to convert units of measure but if you go to the base URL, you can convert most anything.
Open Winmail.dat
Occasionally I get emails that have attachments called winmail.dat. I searched online how to open it and everyone says to use notepad and read the gibberish until you can figure out what it is. That didn’t work for me but I found some great answers at: addictivetips.com. My answer was the at Winmaildat.com – the online viewer for winmail.dat email attachments. There is a 5mb file size limit but it can still come in handy.
Move Your Money
This info was passed along to me after I complained so much about Chase takeover of WaMu. Martha C. White wrote an article about Arriana Huffington‘s “move your money” campaign. It’s a good article and a good site. You just go there, type in your zip code, and they’ll give you a list of smaller banks in your area.
Flagid
Flagid.org is an online flag identifier tool which can help with identifying flags of different by area, shape, color, objects in the flag, geography, history and usage. The searches can be also combined to identify the desired flags. Also, additional links like “flag of the day”, “flag in focus” can help you learn about different flags and discover related facts about the country.
